1st Dalton's day!

I just got home from Dalton's after my first day of selling eggs there.  It was a huge success!  I sold 9 eggs today and was paid for two that were ordered previously.  That means a grand total of $196 today!  I am absolutely thrilled.  Thanks so much those of you who came out to see me and those who made donations.  I hope do this again at least once more before Christmas, and I will blog about it to let everyone know.  Once more, a big thanks to Mrs. Susie Sorrels for letting me set up shop in the lobby.

Dalton's Christian Bookstore

Exciting news!  Thanks to the most wonderful Susie Sorrels, I will be in the lobby of Dalton's Christian Bookstore, Waynesville, from 10 till 2 tomorrow, the day after Thanksgiving.  I will be demonstrating and (hopefully) selling eggs.  It would be great to have your prayers. I hope to bring in a lot of new people who haven't heard about what I am doing.  Everyone should come and see me!!

P.S.  I sold three $25 eggs yesterday! I general sell one every couple weeks, but three in one day is awesome!!  To give you a reference, that is enough money for 6 chickens.  I hope that is a prerequisite to how tomorrow will go. : )

Hooray!

I have just made my first order to World Vision International!!  I was able to buy 14 chickens!  Thats $175 that I have been able to raise so far.  I am so excited that this has taken off as well as it has.  I still have several more eggs to make and promises for more orders, so before Christmas I should be able to make another substantial order.  I have been so blessed through this process.  It has been an invaluable experience.  I love seeing the enthusiasm in people around me.  I pray that God will continue to work through this idea and allow me to bless more people then I would have thought possible.  Once again, thank you for your continued support and prayer.

First Eggs!

I have officially sold my first three eggs!!  Yay!  My first two went to my friend Rachel and her mother Jenny, and my third to my aunt Debi.  We are off to a great start with four chickens.  Remember, if you want to make your own donation, e-mail me and we'll get you your own egg!

Robin's Egg

         This week I have been working on some new patterns that I just posted.  One of them is this nice floral above.  My good friend Robin asked me to make her an egg that reminded me of her.  At first I was worried because any of you who know Robin know that nothing could do for her but flowers.  The only problem is i don't do flowers too well.  I cannot draw at all.  (If you haven't noticed all my patterns are nice neat geometric divisions, with very little drawing.)  So I said to myself, "how am I going to find a pattern I can do well that looks like Robin?"  Well I stumbled upon this little beauty in one of my pattern books and knew it was the one.  It is a perfect representation of me+Robin; My geometric divisions with enough floral to fit Robin.
        Anyway, this is one of my favorite eggs I have ever made and Robin is thrilled with it as well.  I'm very happy with the other eggs I added today as well so look around!

Suggested Donations

Anybody who has looked at the suggested donations listed with the eggs might have noticed there is a theme.  I am only using the amounts $12.50 and $25 because that is the price of one or two chickens respectively, through World Vision International.  I decided which was which by level of difficulty, amount of time required, etc.  I will follow the same guidelines for special orders.  Just e-mail me!  Thanks for your support!

Eggs For Eggs

I learned how to dye Ukrainian eggs at the State Fair when I was 10.  My sister Emily learned to do it around the same time and, being 7 years older, was much better at it.  She got the supplies to make her own at home for Christmas that year, and since she was better than I was, I pretty much gave up on it.

When Emily got married and had no more time for such foolishness, she left her supplies in our room and I decided to try dying eggs again.  Lo and behold, I was better than I had been as a 10 year old.  The trick is to remember that it is just an egg.  If you mess it up, there are a dozen more in the fridge.  For the last year or so I have been making eggs to sell at the Christian Bookstore my mom works at.

Last Sunday, our pastor was preaching on glorifying God with every talent he has given you.  He quoted a passage from Exodus (35:30-35) about God calling skilled artisans to decorate his tabernacle.  Not just calling them, but "filling them with the Spirit of God, with skill, ability and knowledge in all kinds of crafts" (vs 31).  For whatever reason (Spirit of God, maybe?) my Ukrainian eggs popped into my head.  Why was I not doing something with that talent to glorify God?

So, while whispering with my sister during the sermon (see Dr. Prince!  We were paying attention), I hatched a brilliant plan (pun only slightly intended).  I will continue to make Ukrainian eggs and display them at Dalton's, but now all donations towards my cause will be honored with an egg.  All donations will go to World Vision, purchasing chickens for impoverished families in other countries.  Chickens can be a life changing gift for people in poverty.  They provide a renewable food source and potential income.  Eggs for Eggs.  Get it?

I plan to post pictures of my eggs as I make them, and update readers as I purchase chickens.  Through World Vision $25 dollars will buy two chickens.  I can also take orders for eggs from this site, so if you see one you like, email me (see side bar) and let me know the name of the design you like.  There will be a $3 shipping fee for any egg that cannot be hand delivered.  I am also able to accommodate special orders, so if you don't see exactly what you like or have a brilliant idea for me, let me know.

One thing that anyone who reads this blog can do is pray for the chickens that will be purchased by these donations.  Pray that they will go to families who will use them wisely and that they will open the receiver's eyes to the generosity and love of Jesus.
